How Poppy does it
Poppy's age gate has no close button, and clicking outside it or pressing Escape does nothing, so visitors must answer. You set the minimum age, the button text and the message for anyone under age, plus an optional page to send them to. Once a visitor confirms, their browser remembers it and they aren't asked again.

Can I require age confirmation before anyone sees my store?
Yes. By default the age gate appears one second after the page loads, covers the page, and can't be dismissed without answering.
What happens if a visitor says they're under age?
They see your under-age message instead of the store. If you set a redirect URL, they're sent there a few seconds later.
Do returning visitors have to confirm every time?
No. After a visitor confirms, their browser remembers it and the gate doesn't appear again, unless they clear their browser data or use a different device.
